Creamy Tomato Soup
Fall in New England It’s here! Almost. The grass is drying out, leaves are tipped with red, some are already bright yellow, and even though it’s still hot and sunny, I’m so ready. Ready for my first fall in New England!!!! I love every season, the changes, the newness that each one ushers in. Different menus and cravings and clothes and activities. Even fall, this season of death is so beautiful to me. I’ve lived all over the U.S. and experienced fall in all its beauty, except for fall in New England. It sounds so quaint and idyllic, doesn’t it? And I’m ready for it. Bring on the small town…

Lily’s Passion Fruit Glaze
I don’t know if it’s her age, her cute, quirky personality or just that we are both food obsessed, but I am having so much fun cooking and baking with Lily lately. The other day she leaned her head down on her hand, looked at me with this happy, but intense look and said, “Mascarpone and meringue, what’s that other ‘M’ food word?” For some reason in that moment, I couldn’t name one other “M” food word; all I could do was stare at her cute freckles and those sparkly, blue eyes and think, you are too cool for words, kid. Where do you come up with these questions?

A Tiny, Delicious Package of Thanks
We’ve been in our new house in Maine for about three weeks now. I feel like every house has it’s own personality. This one definitely does with it’s old school charm, high ceilings and tall windows, even the creaky hardwood floors tell their own story. We’re still unpacking, stuff…so much stuff!! Still figuring out where we want everything, hanging curtains, painting rooms, figuring out what remodels we want to do, enjoying all the light and brightness. And we’ve been cooking our own delicious food in our own kitchen again. Lovely.

Peach Cobbler
Peaches seem to surprise me every year. I never crave a peach. Maybe because I’m much more of a savory gal than a sweet tooth. I always, always look forward to tomatoes and onions and squash blossoms from the garden, dreaming up all the savory recipes I can make. When the season is over I miss them, especially summer fresh tomatoes. But I never crave a peach. Somehow, though, when late summer brings those juicy sweet, a tiny bit tart peaches to the market I am in love. Maybe it’s because they truly are amazing in their season; you can smell them before you even see them. And maybe it’s…

My Mom’s Shrimp Scampi
One evening about two weeks before my mom died, after helping her get comfortable in bed, I walked out into our living room to my aunts’ shrimp scampi. Our nine-foot long table was full of people, Aunt Trish, Aunt Mimi and Uncle Tim had arrived that week from Ohio to say their goodbyes to my mom. My 3 1/2 year-old daughter, Lily, and my 15 month-old son, Jasper, were there; I know Greg, my husband, was there because he was there through it all with me, my mom’s sickness, her death and after. I honestly can’t remember if my brother and his wife were there yet with their 2 1/2 year…
